Since 1990, churches have been collecting funds to combat local hunger, and also encouraging youth and congregation members to engage in local service projects on Superbowl Sunday. Dubbed “Souper Bowl of Caring” – dollars go to local hunger and soup kitchens and other hunger projects are supported. For a dozen years, Christ Community Church has helped make tamales as part of the Winter Fundraiser benefitting farm workers in Central New York. Our donations will also benefit Eastern Farm Workers Association in Syracuse.
Scripture passage in Sunday worship will be from Psalm 72 with sermon titled “Defender of the Poor.” Video is “Hunger and Poverty in America” which shares the food ministry of The House of Joseph in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
