Pastor Last Sunday June 24th

On Sunday June 24th, CCC will celebrate the conclusion of nearly 18 years pastoral relationship with the Rev. Dr. Janet Adair Hansen, who retires July 1st. Hansen’s last sermon to the congregation is “With Hearts Open Wide” based on scripture II Corinthians 6:1-13.
Some of Hansen’s favorite hymns will be sung: “Gather the Spirit” (Jim Scott), “All Are Welcome” (Marty Haugen), “Our Life Has Its Seasons” (Shirley Erena Murray), and “For Everyone Born” (Murray). The Adult Choir will sing a special
anthem “Grace” (Carolyn Hamlin) and benediction “Blessing and Benediction” (Ruth Elaine Schram).

“The Covenant with Creation,” a dramatic reading by Hansen, will be read – the church was certified as an “Earth Care Congregation” by the Presbyterians in 2012.

The worship video is Tim McGraw’s “Humble and Kind” – which features scenes from Oprah Winfrey’s ‘Belief.”

Denominational representatives will be part of the worship liturgy to say farewell – Rev. Dr. David Gaewski (UCC-NY), Rev. Dr. James Kelsey (ABCNYS), and Stated Clerk Chris Burger (Presbytery of Susquehanna Valley). The end of the worship will be marked by a Butterfly Release and afterwards a dish-to-pass lunch.

Sunday May 13, 2018 Mother’s Day

On Sunday May 13th, Christ Community Church of Cortlandville will recognize the cultural impact of the Hulu TV series “The Handmaid’s Tale” at the 10:30 AM morning worship. Sermon is “Women are More Than Handmaidens.” Scriptures will be from I Samuel 1 and 2, about Hannah, the mother of Samuel, and Gen. 30 – which is quoted in both Margaret Atwood’s 1985 dystopian novel and the popular film series. To celebrate Mother’s Day, carnations will be distributed to all those worshipping.
